They are cute, cuddly and utterly vulnerable. Polar bears capture the admiration and recognition of folks the globe over for their fluffy white furs as well as huggable size. They win respect from pet lovers for their searching skill as well as survival techniques in one of the harshest environments on Planet. Yet despite their overpowering attraction these giants are in danger of being actually wiped off Planet absolutely.
Ice melting really should be actually a primary focus of conservation efforts for the polar bear as this is impacting the polar bear the most. Polar bears count on huge stops of moving ice to do their day-to-day actions linked to staying alive. Polar breeds prey on fat-laden seals from these blocks of ice, they mate, as well as some even deliver their cubs on them. The complication by having the ice melting is that several polar bears have gone hungry considering there is actually not adequate ice for them to hunt their prey. This influences their capacity to reproduce and carry their cubs to term that instantly impacts human population amounts. Also, when ice is too far from land, polar bears are going to wipe out trying to swim far distances to locate them. All of these elements have actually made the polar bear more land bound.
When polar bears are on land they are actually more likely to come face-to-face with a predator, folks. Occasionally individuals hunt polar bears as trophies and more individuals eradicate polar bears while defending themselves. Individuals more impact polar bears when companies construct infrastructure in their natural environment, thereby varying it irrevocably.
Who Is Helping, and How
Significant contributors to the match to cut the Arctic Polar Bear consist of the Coca-Cola Business and the World Wildlife Fund. All together these businesses are actually raising cash to investigation what is actually inducing international climate change as well as functioning by having governmental companies to oversee greenhouse gasoline emissions. More principal ventures include efforts to protect against unfavorable human interactions including poaching as well as extraordinary tourism as well as guarding crucial environment areas such as birthing dens.
Expertise is power. Emerge as extra enlightened concerning this crucial subject by dropping by Polar Bears at World Wild Life.
You are right. We are all goners. Start having wild unprotected sex and spend all of your savings. Live like there is no tomorrow. Because there isn’t.
It won’t be climate change making you extinct.
It is doubtful we will become extinct. we have lived through ice ages before, and our big strength as a species is our adaptability. It may, however, destroy civilisation, and all the things that go with it. I would suggest you learn how to grow food.
We can only hope…* *note: ambiguity of answer is deliberate…
Why would you donate $100 a month to help the WWF lie more and more to people? The WWF is an EXTREME leftist politically-minded “scientific” outfit who will do anything to get people’s money. The fact they’ve written this is evidence of their lies. There are more polar bears now than ever before, they’re not dieing from any climatic conditions and they’re doing just fine. Do yourself and others a favour please, stop giving scams like the WWF money.
yes! threat is also for the entire living things!
Sorry but you are a victim of media misinformation, all artic animals are thriving and populations are growing and expanding. All of them have evolved through previous warm periods where temperatures climbed higher and for longer than they currently have. The artic was completely ice free during the summer only a thousand years ago for almost 300 years. During the Holocene climate optimum between 8 and 5 thousand years ago this ice free summer condition lasted for more than 2 thousand years. The return to summer sea ice in the artic is a recent thing of only the last 600 years and so could be called abnormal and was responsible for the decline in animal populations there over that period. With the return to more tolerable year around temperatures most animal populations in the region will be expanding due to the more beneficial conditions.
Sea ice is at its highest level since records began 30 years ago, and i’m sure that if temperatures were rising which they aren’t then the bears would enjoy a bit of a warm up.. Giving $100 a month to an organisation like the WWF is obscene. As for rising sea levels ,what a ridiculous idea, what you are saying is , if I half fill a glass with ice and half with water, then when the ice melts the glass will overflow! No the glass will remain level, its called Archimedes principle, try it for yourself.
No.
Um, so what’s your point exactly? We already knew the polar bear diverged from the brown bear about 200,000 years ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_bear#Taxonomy_and_evolution That’s cool they found a jawbone, but it doesn’t really tell us much we didn’t already know. Here is the global temperature and CO2 data from ice cores. http://www.nc-climate.ncsu.edu/images/climate/climate_change/global_co2_temp.png Over the past 200,000 years, global temperatures haven’t been more than about 3-4 deg C warmer than they are now. On the current CO2 emissions path, we’re set to hit that global temperature probably sometime between 2050 and 2100. http://climateprogress.org/2008/12/21/hadley-study-warns-of-catastrophic-5%C2%B0c-warming-by-2100-on-current-emissions-path/ In other words, the polar bear is threatened based on the current emissions path. Now, I don’t personally care about the polar bear any more than the other millions of species which are in danger due to climate change, but your argument here doesn’t hold water.
I have no doubt about my ability to adapt to rising sea levels. I’m in my fifties and not as fast as I was, but I’m pretty certain I can still ourtrun the catastrophic prediction of a tidal surge of 2mm per year. If it gets a bit warmer that would be very nice too… it will bring on the veggies better, and perhaps we’d holiday at home instead of going to Fiji.
There is also evidence in that study that fire and volcanoes caused the earth to warm. There is a huge carbonate layer where the fossil were found. I agree with dana. She says that 3-4 degrees can cause a huge difference. I think its a lot like Cynanide, where a little bit can shut down the whole system.
Fact is we have more Polar Bears now than 30 years ago sorry Mr Gore
I think you are missing the point of a mascot. People see images of polar bears on shrinking icebergs and take that to mean that global warming is causing loss of habitat for the poor bears. It doesn’t matter what the facts are. It is an image that evokes emotion and the people who want to use the bears as mascots will exploit that emotion in under-educated people.
I thought AlGore was it’s mascot…
Are the polar bears doomed to extinction? Global warming causing shrinking habitat.
yes, sadly. they are drowning.
No, what is happening is natural selection. Only the strongest will survive
Maybe.
